Description
Summary:The economic and territorial transformations produced in the context of the regional integration process of Mercosur have influenced in those zones where the societies of different States are facing against each others: in the national borders. In these special territories, the social conflicts are getting more international relevance, as it is observed in the “conflict of the “papeleras”” that involves two Member States of the Mercosur, Argentina and Uruguay. Nevertheless, this is not the first case of transnational social conflict in Argentina. The present article focuses on the comprehension of how the inauguration of a bridge, with the consequents customs and legal reforms, has changed the ways of living in the Argentine-Paraguayan border. Since 1992, the bridge that unites the Argentine city of Posadas with its Paraguayan neighbour of Encarnación has become the scene of transnational social manifestations involving part of the paraguayan and argentine societies. Our principal interest is mainly finding out the analysis tracks to understand a social conflict represented in the blockades of an international bridge and the role that plays and has played the State Nation in the Argentine border zones.
