Description
Summary:This essay explores the conditions of imagery in televised news programs based on six properties of television: the first three that prepare the atmosphere, between real and virtual, and the other three where the substance of the news stories is staged. It defines the image of television as a fanatical expression of the present, and direct broadcasting as the ideal of news, and goes on to explore news at the point where one has to pay to see the event at that very moment (pay per view), which constitutes a perverse encounter of television time and the citizens’ vision anticipated by the commercial corporations.
