Summary: | Shorted turns are the result of failed insulation between individual windings in generator rotors. The use of air-gap magnetic flux probes has proven effective in the detection of generator rotor winding shorted turns. Analysis of air-gap flux probe data can determine the number and location of shorted turns. Here are presented some results of measurements in power plants. Finally, guidelines are given for the installation of magnetic monitoring in practice. |
