Summary: | Despite the perceived adoption of improved varieties and recommended management practices of rice by farmers in the lowland ecology, the yield per hectare on the farm has remained low relative to the potential yield. A survey was conducted on lowland rice farmer's fields to determine the major causes of low rice yield in the lowland ecology and the adoption of improved technology packages. Data collected were analyzed using simple statistics and the Tobit model. Results revealed a partial adoption of improved management practices such as the use of quality seeds, modern farmers' farm implements, plant density, rate and time of fertilizer application and herbicides.
