<p>Shortly after the fall of the Soviet Union, Republic of Moldova encountered an unprecedented outward population migration. In the last two decades, an impressive number of Moldovan citizens left their country in search for better lives and better paid jobs. In many respects, the Moldovan government failed to address efficiently and promptly the effects and consequences of migration. Nonetheless, during the last 10-15 years, under the pressure and guidance of the international bodies, the Moldovan government acknowledged the development potential of its citizens that moved abroad on a temporary or permanent basis, and started to adopt the first diaspora and migrant engagement policies. The main purpose of this article is to present and to analyze some policy instruments through which the Moldovan decision-makers have tried to either manage the migration processes or to positively emphasize the relationship between Moldova, as the state of origin, on the one hand, and its migrants, on the other hand.</p>
