Summary: | Even with the evolution that humanity has witnessed since the most remote times, some understandings and conceptions did not follow the same pace. This can be said to be what it is to ‘be a man’ and what it is to ‘be a woman’ in preconceived conceptual, social and cultural terms that remain the same over the years. Dealing with issues related to sex, gender and gender relations are currently on the agenda. Thus, the aim of this essay is to bring a theoretical discussion about gender relations, stereotypes and symbolic violence. For this, a literature review was carried out to expose such themes from the perception of different authors, especially from the contributions brought by Pierre Bourdieu. The main contribution of this work is the extrapolation of the distinction between the concepts of sex and gender in describing the manifestation of these relationships in the labor market, the simplification aimed at stereotypes and the symbolic violence that reinforces the relations of power and domination (un)visible present in society to this day.
