The primary sources analysed were the documents of candidates selection to teaching such as exams, baptism, wedding, suitable precedent certificates and authority letters. The teaching profissionalization meant the progressive conformation of a group of knowledge related to the teaching work, transmitted inside the teachers preparatory schools (escolas normais) formed in these period when a bureaucratic system of teacher’s professional and private life control was established, which was seen as an agent of the State.
