Health in the school: a report on the care provided to teachers

<p>Working conditions can contribute to the occurrence of work-related diseases that affect the physical and mental health of employees, with workers often facing increasing demands as well as conditions that are disadvantageous for the execution of their professional duties. In many workplaces, there is clear evidence of deficiencies that are ergonomic in nature, as well as adverse organizational and psychosocial factors. These difficulties extend to the educational sector, notably in the case of teachers in State schools, who frequently experience high workloads, the need to work in more than one school, no free time for leisure, intensification of their activities at the end of the semester, and excessive numbers of students in the classroom. It is therefore necessary to implement actions aimed at protecting teachers' health, in order to reduce or eliminate those factors associated with the teaching activities that could have negative repercussions on health, especially considering the development and/or continuation of musculoskeletal disorders that degrade the quality of life. This report describes the findings of research undertaken with teachers in State schools in the municipality of Jequié, Bahia.</p>
