Summary: | Orhan Veli Kanik is one of the most prominent figures in the literature of the Republican era. Among his distinguishing characteristics is the fact that he tried to bring about a transformation in literature and that he wanted to transfer new ideas and thoughts to his own generation. Tumultuous first years of the newly established Republic, together with depressive mood of the Second World War, affected Orhan Veli and his generation deeply and they wanted to desert the place and time they were in due to reasons other than conditions in which they were brought up, their social environment and personality. In this study, we tried to find out where Orhan Veli wanted to desert, where he wanted to escape and why by analyzing his poems. In certain places his essays were also of great help in finding answers to such questions. With the help of the science of psychology, character analysis and its reflection in his poetry was accomplished. As a result, the study has shown that like many other artists of his generation, Orhan Veli Kanik, too, tried to lead a peaceful and happy life and sometimes accomplished his goal
