The mapping of groundwater quality consumed in the villages of Itabapoana and Paraiba do Sul river mouth was accomplished through the use of Geographic Information Systems tool - GIS, where there was compliance with the potability standards for drinking water. For this, we studied twenty-one locations and analyzed physicochemical parameters (hydrogen potential (pH), turbidity, total chlorine, salinity) and microbiological parameters (total coliforms and fecal coliforms). The results revealed a potential contamination by total and fecal coliforms across much of the county and some physico-chemical parameters are out of standard quality of drinking water in many localities.
