Looking at the historical development of fear, it can be seen that it emerges as a necessary impulse to survive in many areas of life. The concept that feeds the survival impulse that has existed since the early times of history has changed in accordance with the changing world order. From the earliest times of history, members of power in power have been aware of the influence of fear and have often used this phenomenon as a means of hegemony to strengthen their power. The article aims to focus on how the power uses fear, the formally changing characteristic of primitive fear within the framework of Machiaevelli’s views. Within the scope of the study, in order to shed light on the use of fear as a power factor, based on the relationship between media, ideology and hegemony, the movie Nightmares: Sleepwalkers will be discussed with discourse and semiotic analysis.
