The aim of my presentation is to interrogate the forms and processes used in my portrait sculpture with the objective of exploring my conscious and unconscious drives. Contextualizing these self-portraits, I show the works that led up to me returning to the self as a focus for sculpture driven by feelings of the responsibility of heritage. Points for reflection centre on the formal, visual and sculptural devices I have selected for expression, such as the circle, the condensed relief form, the edge, and the omissions such as backgrounds and composition.My portraiture tends to favor family and figureheads (e.g. Freud, the father(s), Mary, Moses, Picasso). I ask: has my interest in the relief format led to an interest in portraiture and hence family or has my need to touch base with feelings of ‘home’ and ‘family’ driven my interest in the relief form?   In the discussion of the work of Jane McAdam Freud are caught some points related to the work of sublimation, and memory, from the perspective of a creative work that is put in place by the dream/artistic work
