Summary:While travelling across Italy and France during the Restorations, Count Charles Joseph of Clary Aldringen (1777-1831) conceived a philosophy of travelling which moved away from the traditional ideal of learning typical of the Great Tour. Thus his position contrasted with the emergence of Republican travels during the 10-year period of the French Revolution. Doing so, Prince De Ligne’s grandson defined a different conception of travelling which developed at the time of Restorations.
