Summary: | This research aims to analyze the presence of innovation in the Institutional DevelopmentPlans of public universities in Paraná, Brazil, analyzing how it happens and which work areafocuses. It is an exploratory study and applied the qualitative research method of ContentAnalysis, which analyzed the original texts of Institutional Development Plans from all of theseven public universities (federal and state levels), collected from July to August/2010. Theresults identified the presence of innovation in six of the seven analyzed plans, with a largedifference between federal and state universities. The federal universities present a biggerconcern with innovation, while in the state ones, this subject was almost inexistent. Theinnovation appears mostly related with the areas of teaching and research, while in theuniversity extension and internal process management it is less mentioned. One concludesthat the innovation is not yet a widely present subject in the Paraná’s public universitiesplanning.
