Summary:The main goal of this article is to present and discuss the area named School Cartography in Brazil, corresponding to Maps and Children in the International Cartographic Association - ICA. Beginning with the analysis of the scientific events related to the area and its proceedings, which begun in 1995, it was pointed out the main themes which form, nowadays, this field. The article also pays attention to theoretical issues regarding some of the researches done, it lists publications and examples related to the teaching of cartography. At the end, perspectives and future trends for school cartography in Brazil are presented.
