MURÁNSKA PLANINA PLATEAU (S AND SW PART) - A GROUNDWATER REGIME

The paper describes a groundwater regime in the S and SW part of the Muránska Planina Plateau, a typical karstic region with extensively developed karst phenomena. Muránska Planina Plateau is an over-thrusted large block of Mesozoic rocks mainly consisting of limestones and dolomites (Silica nappe),...

Muránska Planina Plateau is an over-thrusted large block of Mesozoic rocks mainly consisting of limestones and dolomites (Silica nappe), overlaying the crystalline rocks of the Kraľova hoľa complex and the metamorphosed sediments of Struženík sequence. The groundwater regime in the mentioned area depends on three major factors: the different hydrogeological character of particular beds, the morphology of impermeable, mainly Lower-Triassic bedrock of carbonate com-plexes, and on the fault tectonics. The Karst development represents an important factor as well, correlating with three main factors. These conditions result in extreme fluctuations of springs discharge. This fact has a negative influence on the exploitation effectiveness of the springs.http://actamont.tuke.sk/pdf/1997/n5/32helma1.pdf
