The Beginnings of the Roman Provincial Census: A New Declaration from 3 BCE

<p>A papyrus from Theadelphia, now our earliest census declaration from Egypt, supports the view that the 7-year census cycle was first instituted in 11/0, two decades after the establishment of Roman rule.</p>
