Biblical theology - dogmatic theology
The purpose of this article is to make a contribution to the discussion between systematic theology and biblical theology from the point of view of what systematic theology can expect of the latter. In this discussion the ideas of JP Gabler, as portrayed by H Boers, can play an important role. The following notions are identified: Dogmatic tendencies should not play a part in the presentation of a biblical theology. Biblical theology should accept a responsibility only to the biblical material which is employed; form a bridge between the exegesis and the exegetical results on the one hand and the systematic theology on the other hand; keep its purpose aligned to dogmatic theology and help to construct methods as how to incorporate the diversities and unity in the biblical witness. |
