Description
Summary:With the development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), it forces the idea of which also the local authorities must use it to enlarge the offer of services and the interaction with the citizens. In this sense, the present study aimed to evaluate the virtualization level of 23 local authorities’ websites of Vale do Rio Pardo (Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil), using Klering & Schröeder’s (2008) model, which allows classifying the websites in six levels. The data collection was made by the analysis of the websites of each local authority, and applying questionnaires to local authorities administrators. Results show that 16 local authorities have a website (70 %) and, of those, only 4 attend the levels 1 and 2 and, partially, the requisites of the 3rd level. The analysis also shows that there is a bigger emphasis in resources of communication, and less emphasis in tools that should allow interaction between the citizens and the local authorities. We conclude that local authorities have websites with low levels of virtualization and its potential is little explored, both for spreading information on the local authority, so as for bring the citizens close to public local questions.
