Summary: | This paper outlines the programmatic content of a text book on mechanics used by students taking the Physics I course offered by the Physics Department of the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, during the first semester of 1997. A preliminary evaluation of three of the four volumes that form such a textbook, based on classroom observations and on students’ opinions, suggests that it was well received and that it is instructionally viable. |
