Summary:The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a Retrovirus RNA of simple filament, responsible for the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). The virus affects the body's immunologic system destroying the defense cells, particularly the CD4 + T lymphocytes. By the infection of women of reproductive age comes another form of HIV transmission, the vertical transmission, it is a kind of contamination from mother to fetus or to newborn. Such transmission can occur during pregnancy, through birth or through breastfeeding. The research's scope was to evaluate the social and economic profile of HIV positive pregnant women among 2007-2012, in a city located in southwestern of Bahia (Brazil country). Through data primaries gathered by analyzing records research and notification of HIV positive pregnant women living in Vitória da Conquista, Bahia, Brazil, registered in the Information System for Notifiable Diseases (SINAN) could be verified records of 110 cases of pregnant women infected by HIV in the city among the researched period. Through the research, could be verified a high rate of young women with low education level and living in the urban area of city, as well a low rate of vertical transmission.
