Summary: | The article aims to carry out a reflection on the project of implementation of sojiculture in
an area of contiguous lands located in the states of Sergipe, Alagoas and Bahia, which was named
SEALBA, acronym of the acronyms of these three states, respectively. This territorial cutout has been
pointed out as possessing a great agricultural potential for soybean cultivation. Based on the analysis of
data from EMBRAPA Soja, EMBRAPA Coastal Trays and the IBGE Agricultural Census (2017), as well
as anchored in a theoretical reflection based on the debate of the processes of mundialization of capital and
modernization of agriculture, seeks to analyze the agribusiness objectives regarding the implementation
of soybean cultivation in the SEALBA region, with emphasis on the Alagoas context, in order to unveil
the harmful socio-environmental impacts that can engender.
