Summary: | The study of the emergence and evolution of the concept of community in international cultural law outlines the place that has been given to communities in the management of cultural heritage. The introduction of this concept at the turn of the 21st century marked a break with the established order, which was built on states. The analysis of international cultural instruments shows that the connection between community and culture first occurred in the field of human rights. The concept of ’community’ then rooted itself in the realm of the intangible cultural heritage. Finally, it spread to the whole branch of cultural heritage law at the international and the regional levels. Through the journey of this concept, a bridge has been built between human rights and cultural heritage law.
