Summary:The article considers the topical issue of the author’s consciousness of a poet in the context of the contemporary literary movement. S. A. Yesenin’s early creative work belongs to the now debatable concept of neo-romanticism in the Russian literature of the turn of the 20th century. Referring to the theoretical works of the time, the author defines the peculiarities of the neo-romantic aesthetics and poetics conditioned by the realization of the change in cultural epochs. The article studies a number of Yesenin’s works written between 1914 and 1919 in the neo-romantic context to clarify the author’s consciousness and the peculiarity of the poet’s creative method. The article combines the historical and aesthetic-typological research approaches which enables the author to make clearer conclusions of the contemporary idea of Yesenin’s creative work. The research elaborates the worldview and poetic peculiarities of the poet’s early creative work.
