Possessions of the Roman catholic church in Kosovo and Metohija in the middle ages

With the development of mining in medieval Serbia, the process of forming a Catholic parish in the centres of mining and trade in the territory of present-day Serbian southern Province Kosovo and Metohija commenced (in Trepca, Koporic, Gracanica-Janjevo, Novo Brdo, Prizren and Pristina). Serbian medieval state had monitored and controlled this process and limited their spread and impact on the local Serbian Orthodox population, so that the Catholic parishes were enclaves within large possessions of the Serbian church with a clearly defined rights and obligations. They had importance and influence in the largest country in the era of Serbian despots, particularly in Novo Brdo and Janjevo. Roman Catholic churches in Kosovo and Metohija in the middle Ages were mainly dedicated to the Virgin Mary and the Apostle Peter.
