Summary: | Burkenroad created two subgenera of the genus Trachypenaeus viz., Trachypenaeus (Trachypenaeus) and Trachypenaeus (Trachysalambria) in 1934. These two subgenera were raised to the status of genus by Pérez Farfante and Kensley and simultaneously created two new genera for the group namely Megokris and Rimapenaeus. As such the trachypenaeid group of penaeid prawns consists of four valid genera namely Trachypenaeus, Trachysalambria, Megokris and Rimapenaeus. During the present study genus Megokris is being synonymised under its original genus Trachypenaeus. Therefore, the main objective of the present study is to propose a revision to the trachypenaeid group of penaeid prawn and to prepare a comprehensive document for the group recorded from Indian water. The study area represents genus Trachysalambria and Megokris with three species under each genus. |
