Summary:The aim of this text is to analyze the strike of teachers of the state system in 1985 in Rio Grande do Sul, from its preparation to its outcome. For it will be used primary sources of Zero Hora (ZH) newspaper, especially news, reports and chronicles of the period combined with specific materials made by strikers leaders as communications and public notes, and minutes relating to internal meetings CPERS, teacher association coordinator at this campaign. This analysis aims to reflect on the causal conflict as significant strike occured at the opening of the New Republic, the contradictions between teaching category and State Executive, process characteristics, forms of resistance, organization and daily deliberation of teaching collectivity.
