Identification of abuse among health academics

Introduction: The violence at school is a serious social problem, which also affects higher education institutions. Objective: To identify, among healthcare students, exposure to abuse, the victim and the aggressor positions. Methods: Crosssectional research carried out with quantitative data collected through self-administered questionnaire. Statistical analysis considered the significance level of p<0.05. Results: The study included 202 students of Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Physical Education and Biology. A portion (14.9%) was the victim of mistreatment at the university, 3.6% have abused a colleague and 42.1% were observers of violence among colleagues. The highest percentage of victims was among women, students friendless and younger ones (p>0.05). As for the perpetrators, the highest occurrence was among men and the older ones (p>0.05). Conclusion: Were detected situations of violence among college students. It is for the body teachers and university administrators to create opportunities of silence break reflection on the theme, since silence increases the power of the attackers.
