It is assumed the hypothesis that there is a psychological operator in the discursive structuring of the term sustainability, in which it is observed the role of a regulatory principle and some constituent elements. The research concludes that the regulatory and constitutive contents of the idea of sustainability derive from the civilization route as an imperative of the historical Reason vis-a-vis the environmental question that is imposed in the contemporary time.
