Summary:This article presents the national authors that deal with the drawing teaching from 1870 to 1907, considering the collections from the University of São Paulo, the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, the Federal University of Minas Gerais and the FederalUniversity of Paraná. The objective is to present the drawing teaching prescriptions and to elucidate how drawing contributes to the senses education, following the defined and imitative drawing modalities presented by Gregorio Cunha. In the collections 25titles were mapped: 11 defined drawing, 11 conventional drawing and 3 imitative drawing. Drawing is present in different school levels and fulfills varied educational purposes, understanding that its teaching through observing the real allows educating the look, the hand dexterity and develops the spatial dimension, which would propitiate the autonomous and free subjects formation.
