Summary: | The purpose of this paper is to analyse the tense relationship between the Fantastic and the Wonderful, having in view theoretical and critical perspectives such as those from Irlemar Chiampi, Tzvetan Todorov and Felipe Furtado, amongst others. Our comparative and critical analysis faces the creation and appropriation of those genders in a modern historical context, marked by the consolidation of the bourgeois illuminist rationalism, which attempts to debase all that which originates from a logic that incorporates the unreal, the magic and the irrational into the world's natural order. Furthermore, it presents the formal criteria in which the above-mentioned critics rely to establish the limits between such genders.
