| Summary: | The present dossier is the result of a collective discussion and analysis of the mutually constitutive relationship between identities and the material forms that make them possible as well as contain them, in contexts characterised by ‘re-emergent’ indigenous identities. The articles presented in the dossier are derivations and re-formulations of presentations that took place at two international workshops during the life of the project “Identities as socio-material networks: perspectives from South America and beyond.” The project focused on a comparative perspective across disciplines and geographies. Examining how artefacts and places interlaced with daily life can acquire a new life, enshrined as tangible indicators of identities, the authors provide examples to review the notions of identity and community that dominate heritage practice, in order to devise new concepts that may enable alternative methods to investigate, communicate and interact, not only with indigenous communities, but also across academic disciplines. The introduction outlines some of the questions and the theoretical concepts that provided a framework the collective discussion.
