In the studied city, we found only one neonatal care unit, where the professionals were investigated by means of a self-administered questionnaire. The sample was predominantly female, of which 42.86% had a specialization in Pediatrics/Neonatology. The availability of CPAP equipment was reported by 42.86%. As for those who felt able to prescribe it, the majority was composed of physical therapists; although it was verified a minor percentage of this professional category among those able to applicate it. 12 indications and 11 contraindications for CPAP/NIV were listed. 42.86% did not know what the best interface for its application was, while 57.14% indicated different interfaces. None of the nurses, 66.67% of physical therapists and 50% of physicians attended classes/lectures on CPAP last year, while 50%, 66.67% and 50%, respectively, have read some article about it in the same period. However, there is little involvement with CPAP use among the investigated professionals, as well as a shortage of hospital neonatal service in the studied city.http://www.uesb.br/revista/rsc/v9/v9n3a02.pdfContinuous Positive Airway PressureChild Health ServicesPhysical Therapy Modalities.
