Description
Summary:The aim of the article is to carry out an analysis of the Małopolska voivodeship in the light of two theoretical concepts, which both emphasize the significance of the regional determinants of the economic development in the knowledge-based economy. These concepts refer to a learning region and entrepreneurial capital. The research question formulated is whether and to what extent the Małopolska voivodeship can be characterized as a learning region focused on enhancement of the entrepreneurial capital. However, due to concentration of the regional infrastructure, institutions and companies within Krakow Metropolitan Area, the question is whether in the researched voivodeship, it is the capital of the region – Kraków that actually should be defined as a learning city. The first part of this article presents the theoretical concepts of the learning region and entrepreneurship capital. The following part contains an analysis of the Małopolska voivodeship by means of a selected set of indicators (i.e. academic potential, development of outsourcing sector and institutions promoting innovative business). The last part provides an analysis on the entrepreneurship capital of Małopolska region based on recent statistic data.
