Summary:<p class="bigFirst">It is the second week of 2012 as I sit and write my first President’s Column. The beginning of a new year appeals to me because it signifies all the possibilities that are to come — a fresh start. With the end of the 2011 conference, I was reminded of the opportunity for a fresh start for the Virginia Library Association with the new slate of officers. But this transition is only the beginning, because the direction of VLA only coalesces into visions and goals at the Executive Board Retreat.</p>
