The launch of a new product in an existing line with the participation of a team of twelve people involved in product development was evaluated. This intervention was performed using a five-day kaizen. The results were rated by the EVMS (Earned Value Management System) methodology, which is used in the management of projects based on time and cost performance indicators. The final analysis confirmed the importance of applying lean thinking in the process of product development, which has repercussions throughout the supply chain. However, problems may occur as a result of the multiplicity of techniques and tools associated with this process, making the PDP very complex. In order to simplify procedures, a checklist was created to avoid waste in project management.http://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=81021138007
