Summary: | Forest fires are increasing in all developed temperate countries and especially in Southern Europe. An unprecedented forest transition is more and more due to land abandonment on one side and, on the other side, to the lack of awareness in urban culture about ecological processes and dynamics. Wildland Urban Interfaces are growing and could represent potential traps in terms of security for people especially where fuel is not monitored and assessed, urban areas are not planned at all and landscape is not properly managed in an integrated way. |
