Summary:Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is a drug, which has long been used in the treatment of malaria, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and Sjogren’s syndrome. Recently with the COVID-19 pandemic hitting the world, there have been studies suggesting that hydroxychloroquine may be useful both in the prevention and the treatment of COVID-19, although the evidence so far has been conflicting. This article reviews the available evidence for the use of hydroxychloroquine in COVID-19 and also mentions some of the ongoing trials in this field.
