Summary: | A reflection aiming to develop a theoretical-philosophical approach between some segments of ancient Greek thought and the contemporary perception in what regards health systems is presented. A focus is directed to the health-disease conception as revealed on the teaching and work of Hippocrates and, from that point on, similarities are evinced between a few “alternative health systems” and “popular health systems”. From such reflection, limitations become apparent on the western biomedical model and the need to rescue the foundations of the Hippocratic humoral theory, to the end of attaining professional performance and comprehension in the areas of health and Nursing. |
