Description
Summary:The famous narrative Lazarillo de Tormes was first published anonymously in 1553 or 1554. Its author’s identity has received much critical attention. Among the most studied issues are the work’s religious meaning and its creator’s unity of conscience. The present work focuses on how Lazarus accounts for his own experience in this first-person narrative. Two features stand out: the varied and substantial satirical discourse intertwines with a thorough reflection on some fundamental concepts of Catholicism –prayer as a form and the central role of charity and death.
