Description
Summary:In providing health care, it is necessary to consider gender differ - ences and identify the prevalence of problems and health needs. Objective: To compare epidemiological profiles and clinical needs of male and female users of the Family Health Units (USF) in São Carlos (SP). Methods: In this descrip - tive cross-sectional study, 5,963 users were interviewed. We used a questionnaire to characterize health conditions. Data were descriptively analyzed, and a chi- square test was applied. Results: Women have a higher prevalence of hyperten - sion, diabetes, anemia, and endocrine disorders and use more health services. Men have higher rates of alcoholism and drug addiction. Women have more in - terest in disease prevention and health promotion. Conclusion: The USFs should emphasize actions promoting men’s health, because the low prevalence of com - plaints suggests lack of knowledge and care provision in this population.
