Description
Summary:The article hypothesizes that today’s images are “inhabited” by photographs, which act as material or mental images. This meta-image status is primarily argued by the fact that photography contributes to the knowledge of the world. The article then examines its status as a model for future photographs and, as a central proposition, analyzes various contemporary paintings that thematize photography. Finally, the concept of precession (Merleau-Ponty 1964) is used to clarify the effects of meaning produced by this photographic metadiscourse.
