Summary:Retrieval of relevant information is the goal of designing an information storage and retrieval system. Relevancy is the cornerstone for design and evaluation of such system. Effort to increase relevancy, i.e. matching user query with response of retrieval systems continues on. In spite of the importance of the relevancy concept, its very definition, nature and dimensions is subject of different interpretation by authorities in the field. The reason is that the very nature of relevancy in essentially dynamic, complex and multi-dimensional. The present article attempt to describe the concept of relevancy in information retrieval systems and represent its general characterestics.
