Summary:Diabetes mellitus is a common problem with high levels of morbidity and mortality. Economic costs of treating the disease and its complications are very high. Diabetic complications arise with chronic hyperglycaemia in the case of hypoglycemia. Prevention of these conditions contributes to the maintenance of normoglycemia, what a crucial role it plays an adequate self-control. Precise instruments for measuring blood glucose at home with minimal errors make it possible to take measures to achieve a compensation of the disease, thereby preventing the occurrence of acute and late complications, improving the quality and duration of life for the patient and reducing the cost of its treatment.
