Summary:With the election of a new Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, TD, in June 2017, a number of changes were made to government departments. A new Department of Rural and Community Development was established, taking functions from the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs (renamed the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht), and from the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government (renamed the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government). The employment brief was moved to the Department of Social Protection to create the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection. Finally, the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation was renamed the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation.
