Description
Summary:German travellers that came to Brazil in the XIX century had produced documents about the brazilian population based on the illuminist ideology and, fundamentally, in the Bildung concept. These reports are still essential historic sources for the comprehension of our colonial and imperial past that will certainly contribute, direct or indirectly, to identity constructions related to our own literate elite in Brazil, after they interact with these speeches. The present paper analyses them by the ideology point of view and by the social practices of their enunciators.
