During the past 25 years, the Moldovan Government, in partnership with non-governmental organizations, has been respecting international commitments and has had substantial support from international organizations (OMF, UNFPA, UNICEF, USAID, IPPF etc.). Additionally, a series of reforms in health and education have been implemented and aimed at improving the reproductive health of the Moldavian population. The legislative basis was elaborated and approved by the Parliament, along with programs and strategies of reproductive health launched by the Ministry of Health. Particularly important was the creation of the network for reproductive health offices, women’s health centers and youth-friendly clinics. A special contribution stemmed from international bodies. Furthermore, their expertise and technical assistance have significantly contributed to the training of the reproductive health service providers, and improved the capacities and performance of medical institutions. The evaluation report of the National Reproductive Health Strategy for 2005–2015 noted these progress, but also highlighted the gaps and problems that remain yet to be solved. In this context, we come up with rigorous recommendations aimed at: optimizing the principles of organization, increasing access and improving the quality of reproductive health services, preventing abortion and performing it safely, ensuring risk-free motherhood and reducing maternal mortality to same indicators that exist in developed European countries.http://akademos.asm.md/files/1_20_51-60.pdfreproductive healthfamily planningmaternal mortalitysafe abortion
