Summary:The burden of food allergy is significant, multi-faceted, and well documented. In an effort to improve food-allergic patients’ quality of life, there is a continuous effort to provide novel treatment options for food allergy. Food immunotherapy is an exciting area of research that has seen tremendous progress over the last decade. This review examines the current literature and provides insights into key oral immunotherapy studies published so far. Areas requiring further study, the role of food oral immunotherapy, and its potential future applications for patient care are also discussed.
