Summary:In the context of the successful development of Russian-Chinese and Russian-Singapore relations, it is very important to pay attention to the historical and cultural institutions that exist in the region. Confucianism - is philosophical and religious teaching, which had a huge impact on China and its immediate neighbors, including South-East Asia. Moreover, in Singapore, as well as in other countries in the region, lives a multi-million Chinese diaspora, in whose hands are concentrated significant financial and economic resources. China is not only an economic leader in the Asia-Pacific region, but also the reference point for all Chinese living in these countries, which causes a corresponding rise of ethnic consciousness. The article concerns to the rise of the national movement in Singapore at the beginning of the 20 century and one of its major figures - Lim Boon Kang. The author also makes an attempt to give a general description of the socio-economic situation of Chinese, Malay and Indian communities. A special attention is directed to Confucianism as an incentive to rise of national consciousness among the Chinese ethnic group living outside of China.
