Th e author discusses the relationship between the idea of postmodernism and the idea of Sacrum in contemporary architecture through a theory conceived by Władysław Stróżewski. Th e architecture of most Polish churches which were built during the last decades can be classif ied as postmodern. Th e question that a r i s e s i s w het her or not it i s p o s sible to e x p er ienc e re l i g iou s sa c re d ne s s u nder t h i s type of architecture. Th e author presents information concerning the essence of sacred architecture and an outline of postmodern philosophy. In the third part she analyses three Polish churches, which can be described as postmodern. The author makes an attempt to answer the question of whether this architecture fulf ills its main function (experiencing sacredness in a postmodern setting). In conclusion, the author makes a connection between contemporary facets in f ine arts and architecture and its involvement in religious architecture.
